Online Options

Grants Pass High School offers Online Options for students seeking a flexible path toward graduation. This program blends the independence of remote learning with the benefits of our comprehensive campus community.

Available primarily to 11th and 12th graders (and 9th/10th graders on a case-by-case basis), the program allows students to complete coursework off-campus while remaining eligible for in-person activities. Admission is based on past academic performance and a clear commitment to graduation. Interested students, accompanied by their parent/guardian, will meet with their counselor and school administration to ensure this approach is the right fit for the student’s educational needs.  Space is limited to no more than 30 students participating in the Online Options program.

To ensure student success, the Online Options program is designed for students who demonstrate a high level of personal responsibility and self-motivation. Ideal candidates are those who can thrive when given the autonomy to manage their own learning and possess the self-accountability necessary to meet rigorous expectations.

The program is a strong fit for students who:

  • Maintain strong attendance and a positive academic record through consistent self-control and dedication.

  • Require flexibility due to documented medical or mental health needs while remaining committed to their academic progress.

  • Balance their education with work commitments or significant outside responsibilities by exercising self-responsibility and effective time management.

Please note that online courses require students to be responsible for their own progress and proactive in their studies; they are not a suitable alternative for those struggling with engagement or attempting to avoid academic requirements.

To participate in the Online Options program, students must complete an application and an interview with the high school counselor and administration. Successful candidates must demonstrate the specific skills and mindset necessary for a digital learning environment. Throughout the program, students will further develop their ability to manage time, communicate effectively, utilize digital tools, and maintain personal motivation.

Course Formats & Requirements

Once accepted into the program, students may utilize the following learning models:

  • Online Courses (via Edgenuity): Students are assigned digital coursework tailored to their specific graduation requirements. These courses are conducted entirely online; however, all unit tests must be proctored by school staff. While proctoring can occur virtually, in-person testing is highly recommended for the best results.

  • Weekly Check-ins: To ensure consistent progress, students are required to meet with the Online Options staff at least once per week during an assigned Edgenuity Check-in period.

  • Hybrid Learning: Students enjoy the best of both worlds by combining their online studies with traditional, in-person classes from the wide variety of electives and core courses available at GPHS.

  • Early College:  Students participating in Online Options will also have the ability to take Early College classes with RCC, with the district covering all costs.  Students can take up to 12 college credits per term with RCC and can earn high school credit while earning college credit.

Applications for the Online Options program can be picked up in the Grants Pass High School counseling office.
